NeuPamBa Duck Club Duck Hunt

Combat Warriors would like to thank Graham Dozier and the NeuPamBa Duck Club for hosting four of our Combat Veterans for a duck hunt. When you are invited to an event you have expectations on what the event will be like in the hunting and the fellowship and NeuPamBa exceeded all expectations. The ducks cooperated providing our Warriors with a duck hunt that could not be any better and the fellowship was outstanding.

A special thanks to Graham, Reggie, Tommy and the members of the NeuPamBa Duck Club for creating lasting memories.

Hyde County Duck Hunt

We were privileged to host our cornerstone event again this year. The Combat Warrior Duck Hunt is where it all began for our organization. It is where we found our mission, built bonds, and formed relationships that flourish over a decade later.

Last year we lost a key member, former board member, fervent supporter, and life long hunter, Jason Hocutt, but his memory lives on in this event.

This year we gathered again in the impoundments and waterways around Lake Mattamuskeet to show gratitude to our veterans and introduce some new participants to waterfowling.

Sixteen warriors were taken afield by eight guides, supported by landowners and volunteers. The ducks were not as plentiful as desired, but the comraderie was abundant and the food exceptional.

Thanks to all our organizational volunteers for making this event successful again for our nation’s all volunteer force!

Combat Warriors Fishing Trip

I wanted to take a moment and reflect on the Memorial Day fishing trip your organization provided to me. First, I want to thank Combat Warriors Inc. for everything you are doing for our nation’s veterans, and I also want to thank you specifically for providing me with an opportunity to hang out with current friends and make new friends. I think it would be appropriate to dedicate a paragraph to three areas of the trip; the reception and lodging, the boat and crew, and the overall experience with the group.

The reception on Sunday and the lodging Sunday evening was pretty amazing. Upon being notified I was selected to go fishing, I began to do research, talk to all of the people I knew that were going, and talking about it non-stop. One of the main reasons for my excitement is because as an avid outdoorsman I know exactly what Hyde County and the OBX have to offer and it is truly a sportsman's paradise. From the time we showed up at Live Oak Lodge until the second we got in our vehicle to come back home I felt like I was around family. The food, the lodge, the people; everything felt so familiar even though I only knew a few people prior. This created a great atmosphere that cultivated friendly competition among boats. The lodging for the evening was also amazing. I have stayed in multiple places in Hyde County and I can say for a fact this is one of nicest places I have seen. It was extremely clean, well taken care of, and the owner even came over and introduced themselves. Overall, I don’t think you could ask for a better situation, we had time to chat and form relationships before getting a good nights sleep.

As with anything else, when you’re trying something new, you always approach it with caution. I am an avid fisherman and I have chartered many boats in my life but fishing out of Oregon Inlet was something on my bucket list. When we showed up in the morning the excitement only got more intense. When we loaded everything onto the boat and talked to the Captain and Mate it was apparent that they lived and breathed fishing. The boat was immaculate, one of the cleanest boats I have ever laid eyes on, and you can tell it's well kept. The Captain and Mate worked super hard to not only entertain 7,048 of my questions but also to put us on fish. To say the conditions were unfavorable would be an understatement.  The seas were big, the fog was thick, and the weather did not want to cooperate but despite the conditions the Captain and Mate never even slowed down. It was very apparent they were putting everything on the line and it resulted in a few nice fish on a day that I was skeptical we would catch any fish. It was pretty amazing being able to share that experience with my fellow Combat Warriors. I think we have all been in “less than ideal” conditions and I believe thats what makes us closer. We understand  each other’s hardships and to a degree its therapeutic to endure more, particularly when its something you love like fishing. If I could have written that chapter, we would have limited out on tuna but, I am very proud of what the crew was able to get  considering the conditions and seeing the smiles on faces when guys caught their first ever tuna, or mahi made the trip not only unforgettable but priceless. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t change one thing about it.

Lastly, I would be remissed if I didn’t comment on the overall experience. I think the program you have going is a wonderful thing and Im sure you are aware Memorial day is a special time for veterans. For some it can be hard, and for others it's a celebration of life. While we all want to remember the fallen, I think many would agree that to honor the fallen we should celebrate the living, and I think your event promotes that very concept. Many stories were told on Sunday night, some of which may or may not have been entirely true, but nevertheless we paid tribute to those who couldn’t be there with us. So in closing I want to say that I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to participate in this event, and I appreciate what you are doing for all veterans. Hopefully, one day I too will be able to provide such an opportunity to a veteran and I can only hope they would feel the same as I do right now. Attached are just a few photos that will always be a part of me. Thank you.

Respectfully Submitted,
William Barber

Family Outing and Pheasant Throw

The 2020 Family Outing and Pheasant Throw was outstanding and it was enjoyed by all. We had around eighty Warriors and Family Members that participated this year and enjoyed this event.
The weather was windy and chilly but the sunshine provided us with enough warmth that it was comfortable with the kids going barefoot.

The rifle and pistol ranges were being used as well as the skeet shooting stand. We had 500 Pheasant released with a very high percentage being harvested and cleaned for the Warriors to take home.
We have inflatables for the children to play on and that is a big hit with the children and the moms. This year we added a face painter and a magician to entertain the kids and give the moms more of a break.
We had snacks for everyone before and after lunch. Speaking of lunch the Bar-B-Q this year was exceptional with a lot of seconds being served.

My thanks to board members Blake,Colton,Doug,Matt and Ronnie for helping make this year a wonderful day for our Warriors and their families.

2020 Hyde County Duck Hunt

The 2020 Combat Warriors Hyde County Duck Hunt was another successful event for our Warriors and us. The weather and the ducks did not cooperate but the fellowship was outstanding. We were able to harvest a few ducks (not the usual) but we had a good group of Warriors who understood the situation. That is when camaraderie took over as did the 15 exceptional cakes provided by Brenda Jones.

The Warriors arrived on Thursday the 2nd to register and we had a superb oyster roast and seafood dinner.
The next morning Buddy, Scott, Dale and Matt manned the kitchen providing the Warriors with a delicious breakfast, lunch and Bar-B-Q dinner.

Saturday we finished the hunt and all departed for home with another great experience to remember.

First Annual Scotland Neck Combat Warrior Appreciation Deer Hunt

To preface this brand new Combat Warrior event, imagine a group of people who are openhearted, patriotic citizens  that love their military and want to show them. Like kids at Christmas, there was enormous enthusiasm to create a venue that welcomed and embraced Combat Warriors to Scotland Neck’s First Annual Combat Warrior Appreciation Deer Hunting Event. Many people in Scotland Neck and beyond assisted in months of planning. The event took place at Buckshot Hunt Club. Flag poles were built to line the streets with American flags. Land owners from four counties ,hunt clubs, the community of Scotland Neck, the Mayor, business owners, church families and many caring individuals got involved.

On 06 December 2019, twenty nine Warriors arrived for the weekend’s Deer hunt. Many guides were ready for the hunt! Many volunteers, including volunteer Warriors were there to make the event a total success! Meals of steaks, barbecue and chicken kept the grills on fire. Homemade fix ins, desserts and much more prevented anyone from being hungry. A dog attack demonstration was Saturday lunch entertainment and a live band entertained the Warriors Saturday evening. The deer hunting was plentiful!! An enormous fire burned all weekend. Rest and relaxation, kindness and compassion was abundant for the Warriors. Simply said, a fine event!

Oregon Inlet Fishing

For the last few Oregon Inlet Fishing Events we have had some issues beyond our control ( weather, mechanical problems, etc) but this Memorial Day event provided our Warriors with all you could ask for.
All the Warriors (24)arrived on the 26th  on time and we had an excellent dinner at Harris’s Steakhouse and an exceptional social hour with everyone enjoying the the camaraderie to the fullest.
We gathered for breakfast at 2:30AM on Memorial Day with everyone excited about the upcoming off-shore fishing event.

The weather was great with three foot seas rolling 11 seconds apart and the fishing was excellent!
The Big Eye Tuna were hot and we caught 11 of them with the biggest weighing in at 159 lbs. We also harvested Black Fin Tuna, Dolphin and an assortment of other fish with over 1500lbs of fish being cleaned.
We thank the Captains and Owners of the A Salt Weapon, Outer Limits, Phideaux and Stolat for providing our Warriors with a wonderful fishing experience on this Memorial Day.

On Memorial Day we always remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and these Warriors will remember an unbelievable fishing trip also.
God Bless our Military and all who serve.

George Chockley Memorial

“The Chockley family and Combat Warriors President, Bill Warren, took the time to memorialize George Chockley, a long-time volunteer and valued friend of Combat Warriors, Inc.  George will be missed by all that were lucky enough to know him!”

The Combat Warriors Hyde County Duck Hunt

The Combat Warriors Hyde County Duck Hunt was a lot of fun for everyone. The event started with 19 Warriors in attendance with a fantastic oyster roast and a seafood dinner on Thursday night.

The ducks did not want to cooperate Friday but the Warriors did manage to harvest some ducks and develop great relationships with other Warriors and their guides.
That night we had another terrific barbecue dinner with tasty deserts.
The Saturday hunt was more productive with a variety waterfowl harvested putting a smile on everyone’s face.

The Warriors had a big time with new friendships being developed and old ones being renewed.

God Bless our Warriors and their Families.

2018 Pleasants Farmer Deer Hunt

The 11th annual Combat Warriors, Inc. Pleasants Farmer Deer Hunt was held Nov. 2-5 in Franklin County, NC and the warriors stayed at the cabin on Mrs. Mavis Nelms farm, Highway 39 S. about 2 miles of Louisburg. What a great and successful event; eighteen (18) total warriors; made up of Marines, US Army troops, and Navy Seals. Most of the warriors arrived around noon on Friday Nov. 2nd allowing them to hunt in the afternoon. All hunted Saturday and a few chose to stay over and hunt early Sunday morning before church service. This year they bagged together 23 deer; the largest being a nice 10 point buck weighing approximately 170 pounds.

The warrior with the biggest buck received a free mount from taxidermist, Spencer Loftin. The meat was processed by Pearces Custom Processing, owned and operated by Jeffrey Pearce. Mr. Pearce gives Combat Warriors, Inc. a significant discount in processing the meat for the warriors.

Guides were furnished for all warriors and these fine men donated their time to help for the entire weekend. Friday afternoon, Mrs. Mavis Nelms had cooked the warriors a big pot of Brunswick stew for the warriors and guides, plus had desserts as well. Friday night after the hunt, 6 bags of fresh oysters were brought up from the coast and served to the soldiers as an appetizer and all were served barbecue chicken prepared by Joe and Kathy Wood of the Red Bud community. Kathy’s sisters, Lynn Champion and Sheila Hobbs prepared side dishes. Saturday morning at 4:30 am, breakfast was served by Fellowship Gun Club of the Castalia community, and they also furnished chopped barbecue lunch Saturday for all. Saturday night the warriors and guides were treated with a prime rib dinner, compliments of Joe and Kathy Wood. Music was furnished by County Commissioner, Mark Speed, who volunteered his time and equipment, and special live music was done by Larry Fritz of the Red Bud community.

Much preparation was done to make this event successful; hunting stands were put up, many land owners volunteered their properties for hunting, and 2 tons of shelled corn was put out before and during the hunt to make it the best possible for the warriors.

Combat Warriors, Inc. thanks all sponsors ( 9 businesses ) to help make this event such a success. Two of the sponsors are local to Louisburg; The Timber Company, Chris Stewart and CAS Machine owned by Mike Stone. Others included Les Merritt, CPA of Zebulon, Don Johnson Forestry, and GPAgency, Inc. of Raleigh. A special 4 ft. X 8 ft. sponsor banner was made and prominently shown during the event to show appreciation.

A total of 24 warriors signed up for this event but 3 of the Navy Seal men were deployed at the last few days for a mission. Six (6) of the warriors who attended are being deployed within the month to serve our country in Afghanistan for nine (9) months being away from their wives and children.
